“I don’t think it’s fair for a company to say, ‘Go work from home,’ and not give you options, or a stipend, or the right furniture, or the right resources…”

Liz Elam is the founder of the world’s largest network of coworking owners and operators in the world. The Global Coworking Unconference Conference (GCUC) — affectionately known as juicy — has produced more than 30 coworking conferences around the world, from New York to Beijing and London to Sydney.

Elam has been a coworking owner herself, having founded Link Coworking in Austin, Texas, back in 2010. At the time Link was one of just four of these spaces in the city. Need proof of the massive growth of coworking? Today, there are over 70 in Austin alone.

We talk with Elam about what savvy soloists should look for in a coworking space, whether working from home is overrated — and how big companies are taking advantage of employees who do.

And, of course, she will answer the burning question: What will the future of coworking look like — on Mars?

With things returning to normal, GCUC conferences will be in-person again, starting with an event early this fall, most likely in Austin.

Juicy members can access a Slack channel featuring content from past events as well as tools and discounts on essential products and services.
